In recent weeks, I’ve been enamored by Apple’s other machine, the iPad Pro. So this new MacBook Pro is excellent, but I’ve also been a bit bored when using it, because it is just a laptop. Apple fans have proven time and again that they are okay with paying more. These prices aren’t the best value around, but considering that MacOS is almost objectively superior to Windows when it comes to creative work such as graphic design, video and audio editing, there is a very clear audience for this machine. The 2020 13-inch MacBook Pro starts at $1,599 for the aforementioned base model with 8th-gen Intel processor, 512GB storage, and 16GB RAM while this specific 10th-gen, 1TB storage, 32GB RAM, jumps to over $2,500.

Now that Apple has fixed the keyboard, the MacBook Pro really is a mostly flawless portable computer, with the only reasonable gripes being the relatively higher price compared to other laptops and the slightly chunkier bezels.

Any recent iPad, iPhone or Android phone will have a more capable front-facing camera than the one seen here. But it really goes to show how much more we demand out of smartphones than we do other computing machines.

The 720P front-facing camera is decent for video calls, and the microphones here are very good at picking up clear audio even in a somewhat noisy environment. If I do edit videos, a two hour session will drain almost 40% juice. All four ports can top up the battery, transfer data, or output to a display up to 6K.Īpple doesn’t reveal battery specs, but from my usage, the machine can go over an eight hour work day easily if I’m not editing videos. The macOS Catalina (10.15) that runs here performs smoothly, and animations such as switching between full-screen apps, just run smoother here than on most Window machines. If you’re using this machine for just basic office work? You’ll never have to worry about lags or stutters. So if you’re doing heavy video or graphics work, the 16-inch option is still the most powerful option, but this 13-inch model is more than capable of professional creative work to a degree. From my testing, I can export a six minute 4K/30 video on Final Cut Pro in about nine minutes, which is really good, but does fall short of the 16-inch MacBook Pro’s seven minutes because the latter run on a more powerful AMD Radeon GPU. I, however, am a video editor, so I need the 10th-gen and it’s Intel Iris GRU. If you don’t, the 8th-gen is more than powerful enough. Ben SinĪpple’s decision to use the older 8th-gen Intel chip in the base model has been cause for some controversy, but the only real benefit of Intel’s 10th-gen chip over the 8th-gen is a superior GPU that will only matter if you do video editing. Apple also sells this model as refurbished MYDA2LL/A.The Touch Bar above the keyboard returns. This is a great device for users who are going to be on their feet all day and need a powerful device that can last multiple hours of use without needing to be plugged in. The rest of the Macbook Pro specifications match previous models with a 256 GB entry-level storage option and only 2 USB 3.1 ports. It does however feature an integrated 8-Core GPU which shares 8 GB of memory with the system through a Unified integration.
Due to the new processor, this device does not support Window’s emulation. The M1 processor has a clock speed of 3.2 GHz and is substantially more energy efficient to its Intel counterparts, allowing for up to 20 hours of use with the same battery capacity as previous models. This is the first Macbook pro to feature the new processor that was designed and built in-house. The 2020 Apple Macbook Pro M1 13-Inch (Z11C000EM – Z11B000EN) is Apple’s first introduction of their new 8-Core M1 processor.
